Annoying Shoulder Pain!

There are many causes of shoulder pain. A major cause of shoulder joint strain is due to overexertion or heavy lifting. The next causes are injury to the joint due to accidents, sports, blows etc. and the muscle mass wears down and the membrane is torn.

Any infection and inflammation of the joint can cause shoulder pain. Even if the neck is kept in the same position for a long time – eg: people who work on computers, people who work in sewing – neck pain can also occur in the shoulder. People who drive long distances on rough roads can experience shoulder pain due to lax ligaments in the shoulder joint. Due to arthritic diseases and the problem of joint slippage, severe pain in the shoulder.

Next, the shoulder and humerus ends can become worn and rough. They can rub against other parts and cause pain. Normally, this joint has a cushion-like cavity called a ‘bursa’. It prevents this friction. But if the cushion itself gets damaged, the pain becomes unbearable. This pain is caused by calcium deposits in the tendons of the shoulder joint.

If there are gall bladder problems pain will appear in the right shoulder. When there is damage to the neck bones, if the nerves that reach the shoulder are compressed, the shoulder will feel pain. Pain in left shoulder during heart attack. If all the four tendons that support the movement of the joint (Rotator cuff) are affected, if the shoulder is immobilized due to pain, if the diabetes is not controlled, the muscles of the shoulder joint will tighten (Frozen shoulder). Then the pain is so severe that you can’t even move your shoulder.

Heart attack pain?

Try moving your shoulders in different directions. If the pain increases or decreases and the feeling of tightness in the shoulder loosens, it is still pain from the shoulder joint. Shoulder movement is unrelated to pain; Pain even when there is no movement; If it is determined that the pain is persistent, the following symptoms should be observed. The pain is more in the left shoulder only; Pain spreads to left arm and fingers; The body sweats; If it’s throbbing, it’s more likely to be heart attack pain. See a doctor immediately.

Neck problem?

If the pain starts in the neck and descends through the shoulder to the arm, if the pain feels like electricity, if there are symptoms like numbness and irritation in the fingers, then you can know that the shoulder pain is caused by a problem in the neck.

A home remedy?

In the early stages of the infection, alternate hot water compresses for one minute with ice compresses for one minute on the painful area. Doing this for 20 minutes each morning and night for two weeks will reduce shoulder pain. It is also good to rest the shoulder. Minimize work that involves raising the arm and moving the hand behind the back. Simple exercises such as shoulder roll back exercises, pendulum back and forth exercises, and side arm exercises can be done frequently.

Tests for shoulder pain

Bone problems can be seen on X-rays. CT Scan, MRI Scans can also look for problems in other parts of the body, including the tendons and ligaments around the joint. A nerve conduction study can help determine whether a nerve problem is the cause of shoulder pain. An ECG/’treadmill’ test will also be required.

Treatment methods

Pain relievers and ointments will be prescribed for initial pain. Muscle relaxants and sedatives are given as needed. Physiotherapy gives good relief. When the pain progresses, steroid injections are given into the shoulder joint.

If all these do not relieve the pain, surgery is done. They make a few holes in the shoulder and use an arthroscope to repair the roughened cartilage; Repairs atrophied muscle groups; They patch up torn membranes; Removes calcium crystals; They clean the shoulder joint. These cure shoulder pain permanently.
